Indian Army to Develop Firing Range at Dholera SIR to Enhance Defence Training
AHMEDABAD: The Indian Army is set to enhance its operational readiness with a new firing range planned in Gujarat’s Dholera Special Investment Region (SIR). In response to the Army’s request, the Gujarat government has set aside more than 200 square kilometres of mostly government-owned coastal land near Dholera for this project.
The proposed firing range will support weapons testing, advanced defence exercises, and large-scale training drills for the Army and allied defence forces. Dholera’s vast terrain and proximity to the coast make it an ideal location for conducting high-capacity military operations while minimizing disturbance to populated areas.
This initiative aligns with India’s broader vision to strengthen its defence infrastructure and improve self-reliance in military preparedness. The planned range is expected to facilitate joint exercises, testing of new defence technologies, and operational drills, reinforcing India’s security capabilities.
Additionally, the establishment of the firing range complements Dholera SIR’s emergence as a key hub for strategic and industrial development, balancing national security needs alongside economic progress in Gujarat.
The project reflects the government’s commitment to supporting the armed forces while utilizing underdeveloped land resources effectively, adding a new dimension to Dholera’s evolving role within India’s defence and industrial landscape.
