AHMEDABAD: Gujarat announced the development of the Dholera International Airport to support the Dholera Special Investment Region (DSIR), India’s first smart city under the Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor. The airport will be built in Navagam village, about 100 km southwest of Ahmedabad, aiming to handle rising passenger and cargo needs while reducing congestion at Ahmedabad Airport.

The Dholera International Airport Company Limited (DIACL), formed by the Gujarat government, will oversee the project in PPP mode to fast-track development. Once operational, the greenfield airport will have the capacity to manage 50 million passengers annually, benefiting nearby cities like Vadodara, Rajkot, Bhavnagar, Nadiad, and Anand.

Key features include two major runways (4,000m and 2,910m), a passenger terminal, cargo facilities, taxiways, parking, hotel, convention centre, isolation bay, and green belt. The project will be completed in phases, with the first phase expected to handle 30 million passengers annually.

The Gujarat government will invest Rs 20,000 crore in infrastructure development, aligning with its goal to transform Dholera into a global economic hub with world-class infrastructure, enhancing connectivity through road, rail, metro, and port networks while supporting the state’s industrial growth and smart city initiatives.
