GANDHINAGAR : In a significant step toward enhancing connectivity in the Dholera Special Investment Region (SIR), the Airport Authority of India (AAI) has formally submitted an application seeking environmental clearance for the Dholera International Greenfield Airport. The proposal comes after a favorable feasibility assessment and multiple rounds of inter-departmental consultations.

The upcoming airport is planned near Federa village, strategically situated just outside the SIR boundary to support cargo movement, passenger transport, and international access to Gujarat’s first smart industrial hub. The location has already received technical clearance, meeting the essential criteria for safety, land availability, and minimal environmental disruption.

Top officials have confirmed that once the Ministry of Environment grants approval, the process of securing additional statutory clearances and licensing will be fast-tracked. The project is being pursued as a public sector-led development with potential for private sector participation under a joint venture or public-private partnership (PPP) model.

State authorities emphasize that the airport will play a pivotal role in Dholera's development under the Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC), boosting investor confidence and facilitating global trade. The airport will also complement the planned expressway, metro rail, and logistics infrastructure, positioning Dholera as a fully connected economic zone.

With the environmental clearance process underway, the Dholera International Airport project moves one step closer to realization, offering promising potential for regional growth and national connectivity.
