Flood Mitigation Strategy Finalized in TP Drafts
DHOLERA:
A significant upgrade to Dholera's urban planning process has been implemented as new Town Planning (TP) drafts now formally include a dedicated flood mitigation strategy. The proposed framework is engineered to counter the natural vulnerability of Dholera’s low-lying geography, especially during the intense monsoon seasons.
The strategy combines advanced stormwater drainage systems, retention bunds, and natural water buffer zones to redirect excess rainwater and minimize flooding. In addition, certain arterial and internal roads will be constructed at elevated levels, acting as protective barriers to ensure uninterrupted transportation access, even during heavy rainfall.
The planners have emphasized using natural topography and sustainable design principles to build a system that’s not only technically sound but environmentally conscious. The proposed drainage layouts will follow gravity-based engineering, allowing water to flow naturally into retention zones and away from residential or industrial sectors.
These features are designed to ensure that urban growth doesn’t outpace resilience planning. By integrating flood control into the earliest phases of Dholera’s development, the region aims to establish itself as a model for disaster-resistant smart cities across India.
Experts believe this strategic approach will protect key infrastructure investments and foster investor confidence by demonstrating the region’s commitment to long-term sustainability and climate resilience.
