Dholera SIR: Expressway Construction Underway to Boost Smart City Connectivity
The construction of the Ahmedabad–Dholera Expressway is now underway, marking a significant development in the journey toward building India’s first smart city in Dholera. Managed by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), this 109-kilometer expressway is designed to offer high-speed, access-controlled connectivity between Ahmedabad and the Dholera Special Investment Region (DSIR).
This expressway is a vital part of the Delhi–Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC) and is expected to cut down travel time between the two cities from approximately 2.5 hours to less than 1 hour. The corridor will also connect with the upcoming Dholera International Airport, supporting seamless movement of goods and passengers.
With an estimated budget of ₹3,000 crore, the project features:
- A 4-lane roadway, expandable to 6 lanes
- Service roads, interchanges, and underpasses
- Eco-friendly green medians
- Well-planned drainage systems for monsoon readiness
The expressway is being built in four segments, with construction contracts awarded to top infrastructure firms including Sadbhav Engineering, Dineshchandra R. Agrawal Infracon, and GVK.
Once completed, the project is set to unlock new opportunities for industrial growth, especially in key sectors like electronics, electric vehicles, semiconductors, and defense manufacturing. This enhanced connectivity is a crucial step in transforming Dholera into a globally competitive smart industrial city.
