Major Aircraft Companies Explore Dholera for MRO Facilities
GANDHINAGAR:
In a promising development for Gujarat’s aerospace ambitions, global aviation giants such as Lockheed Martin, Airbus, and Boeing have expressed preliminary interest in setting up Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) hubs within the upcoming Dholera Special Investment Region (DSIR). This interest was conveyed during high-level discussions held between these firms and senior representatives of the Gujarat government.
The companies are exploring the feasibility of establishing long-term infrastructure in Dholera due to its strategic location, abundant land availability, and planned global connectivity through road, rail, and future airport linkages. Dholera’s proposed international airport has been a particular point of attraction for aerospace firms seeking an integrated ecosystem for servicing commercial, defense, and cargo aircraft.
According to government officials, dedicated aerospace and logistics zones are being considered as part of the town planning schemes to attract such high-value industries. The introduction of MRO units is expected to generate skilled employment, boost technical education, and position Gujarat as a regional aviation hub.
By aligning with the Make in India and Aatmanirbhar Bharat goals, the entry of global MRO players into Dholera can potentially reduce India's dependence on foreign repair services, saving valuable foreign exchange and shortening service cycles for domestic airlines and defense fleets.
