Dholera to Host India’s Largest EV Battery Recycling Plant
DHOLERA: Plans have been approved to establish India’s largest electric vehicle (EV) battery recycling facility in Dholera, marking a significant step towards advancing the nation’s clean mobility and sustainability goals. The facility will have the capacity to process 50,000 tonnes of used EV batteries annually, extracting valuable materials such as lithium, nickel, and cobalt for reuse in new batteries and reducing dependence on raw material imports.
This initiative aligns with India’s clean energy mission and circular economy vision, ensuring that critical battery materials are recovered and reintegrated into the supply chain, minimizing waste and environmental impact. The recycling plant will help manage the growing volume of used batteries from the rapidly expanding EV market in India while reducing landfill burden and pollution risks.
Officials emphasized that Dholera’s advanced infrastructure, reliable power supply, and policy support under the Green Mobility Mission make it an ideal location for this large-scale facility. The project is expected to attract global and domestic investors interested in sustainable technologies and battery material recovery, further positioning Dholera as a green industrial hub.
The facility will also create direct and indirect employment opportunities, offering skilled jobs in recycling technologies and environmental management while supporting local economic growth in Gujarat. By hosting this recycling plant, Dholera is contributing to India’s vision of building a clean, self-reliant EV ecosystem, fostering sustainable industrial practices, and reinforcing the region’s role as a leader in advanced manufacturing and green technologies.
