GANDHINAGAR: In a major boost to India’s Smart City Mission, a prominent Japanese technology consortium signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Dholera Special Investment Region (DSIR) to establish a strategic partnership aimed at deploying advanced urban solutions. This historic collaboration, signed during the India–Japan Business Summit, marks Dholera’s first-ever global technology partnership.

The MoU outlines a framework for cooperation on next-generation infrastructure elements such as intelligent transport systems (ITS)automated utility gridssmart water and energy management, and AI-powered waste disposal systems. The Japanese consortium—comprising leaders in smart technology, urban design, and automation—committed to providing Internet of Things (IoT) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) based solutions tailored to Dholera’s long-term vision as a data-centric industrial smart city.

This collaboration is seen as a foundational step in building a resilient, digitally integrated urban zone in Western India. The Japanese firms also proposed using sensor networks and real-time data analytics to support urban planning, traffic flow optimization, and public service delivery in Dholera.

Government officials from both countries expressed confidence that this tech alliance would serve as a model for other greenfield smart cities under the Delhi–Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC) initiative. This milestone sets a global precedent for public-private collaboration and reaffirms Dholera’s position on the international map as a rising hub of high-tech, sustainable urbanization.
